Chris O'Donnell: All-American Star

An Interesting examination of the evolving American societyRauschenbusch envisioned a Christian ethic that pervaded the social and economic lives of Americans. He blended ancient Christian thought with the new tools of social science, in order to identify and solve the "social crisis," arguing that "communism" (as he used the term) was fully consistent with Christianity. Rauschenbusch's burden was to show the people where, how, and why Christianity could help them.
Rauschenbusch was a seventh generation Lutheran minister, whose father emigrated to American from Germany in the 1850s. Rauschenbusch, the scholar, was a theologian at the Rochester Theological Seminary, where he taught for forty years. He also served the Second Baptist Church in New York City. Rauschenbusch, the theologian, historian, and sociologist published Christianity and the Social Crisis in 1907 and Christianizing the Social Order in 1912.

Christianity, brains required

An essential guideA number of texts have been published in recent years in the field of sleep, but few are as up-to-date and accessible as the current publication by Douglas. In approaching this vast and still burgeoning area, he has logically and systematically categorised the various disorders of sleep, starting with sleep apnoea, and moving through narcolepsy, parasomnias, insomnia, phase shift disorders and diseases in which sleep may play an important role, e.g. COPD and asthma.
Throughout, Douglas has given a brief historical summary, followed by a description of the known mechanisms/aetiologies of each particular disorder. His description of the physiology and pathophysiology of the upper airways in relation to sleep apnoea is unparalleled - well structured and easy to follow. The references are current or relate to seminal work in the area under discussion, which is an additional bonus to those stimulated to look further afield. Basic facts are well presented, the book is replete with diagrams, tables and lists of differential diagnoses or management strategies which all serve to strengthen the messages in the text.
The text itself is clear and engaging; the style straightforward and factual.
This book serves as both an introduction to sleep medicine for the student, clinician or practising physician and as a summary for those already engaged in the field. As textbooks and reference books go, this one is to be highly recommended and should be a staple addition to the medical bookshelf.

A Review

"Selected," not "Collected" Storiesof A. E. Coppard's short stories. I own the Knopf edition, which
came out back in the 1950's, and it contains 38 stories selected
from a corpus of over 200.
The selection is good and satisfying, but some of the omissions
are peculiar. In particular, I'd single out the absence of the
story "Black Dog," one of Coppard's best novella-length works.
The selection as such has no real clunkers, and it could serve
as a good introduction to Coppard's work, if the book can be
located. Coppard seems unjustly neglected these days, so it
might be difficult if one plans to wait for a new edition of
his work.
Personally, I'd like to see a _Complete Stories_, which I
would buy in a heartbeat. Such an occurrance seems of low
probability these days.
Readers who like these stories might give the stories of
Walter de la Mare, Frank O'Connor, and D.H Lawrence a
try (not Lawrence's novels, which are very different).

Definitive work

Excellent review and reference

Funny how these things work outEasy to read and easy to use, I've amazed friends and clients for years using the principles. The readings you can put together are so very acurate that it's almost scary.
Not only that, it was a real joy to read through. I hope it gets reprinted.
The book goesthrough the stages of Chris's rise to fame and how he became a well known actor, with lots of info and the whole story of how he started out in front of the camera. All the gossip on what went on, on the film sets. The author gives a full explanation on the plot of his films and the roles Chris plays. It also has quotes from Chrishimself of how he has got on in his life so far and his future plans.
The book states the problems Chris had to deal with, such as tabloid stories about him. It also states Chris's happier moments such as the awards he has won and his name appearing on the nominee's list. Famous screen legends, Chris had made friends with, and the hot stuff provider describes his ideal women.
I gave the book 9/10 because it included:
· Interesting facts on him, I never knew before
· Good biography information
· Chris's personal thoughts and views on issue's
· Vital Statistics
· Filmography
· Gorgeous pics of Chris to make you swoon!
I didn't give it 10/10 because in some chapters the book goes off the story of Chris O'Donnell and focuses on his co-stars and other people associated with his films, and I really didn't want to read about anyone except Chris. That was the only bad point.
Overall, I think Chris O'Donnell: All - American Star is one of my favourite books. It's the ideal gift for any true Chris O'Donnell fan. I found out I have a lot in common with my favourite star, and the author Douglas A Mendini has researched well on Chris!. He has expressed in the pages of this book, O'Donnell's life through the good and bad times, but mostly the good times. He has told the whole story of how this little boy on his schools crew team became the boy wonder of the 90's we all know and love. But over everything, he has shown fans the REAL Chris O'Donnell.
